A one-sixth plate pinhole camera made from spalted beech, cherry wood and black walnut. The film size, 2 1/4” x 3 1/4”, was a deliberate choice, the camera being made specifically to photograph small, intimate objects found around the home. This camera is now in the possession of Japanese photographer Katsuhiro Ichikawa, whose personal work is a reflection on the area around Fukushima, both before and after the earthquake, tsumani and nuclear disaster of 11/3/11.

Images from the series for which this camera was made. The lensless nature of the pinhole camera, combined with its small format add to the effect of using 50+ year old Ilford Selochrome film. The outcomes are soft, gentle and exist in their own space and timeframe.
